Pregnant Teen and Unborn Child Killed in Suspected DUI Crash
A tragic collision in Covington, Georgia, claimed the lives of 19-year-old Jaylah Donald and her unborn son in the early hours of Friday, Nov. 28.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred just after midnight on Fairview Road near Crestfield Circle. Jaylah was seated in the passenger side of a Hyundai Sonata driven by her mother, Takila Donald, when the vehicle was struck by a BMW.
Investigators determined that the Hyundai was backing out of a private driveway and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. The BMW, traveling westbound, collided with the passenger side of the Hyundai.
Jaylah, who was seven months pregnant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her unborn child also did not survive. Takila was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The driver of the BMW, identified as Brandon Robinson, reported minor injuries. Authorities allege Robinson was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
In a statement, the Georgia Department of Public Safety confirmed that charges are pending against both drivers. The investigation remains ongoing.
Jaylah had plans to attend college after the birth of her son. Her life and future aspirations were cut short by the collision, which has drawn attention to both impaired driving and roadway safety.
